General Arrangements for Classes and Examinations on Approach of Typhoons and Rainstorms

 

 

 

1. 

Postgraduate Programmes

 

 

A.

Suspension of Classes (except medical students at the Prince of Wales Hospital)

 

 

(a)

If the local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or the black rainstorm signal is issued at the following hours, classes will be suspended as appended below:

(b) 

If the local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or the black rainstorm signal is issued during a class period, all classes will be suspended immediately. When the black rainstorm signal is still in force, staff members and students are advised to take shelter at a safe place until the weather and traffic conditions have improved.

(c)

Public announcements on suspension of classes made by the Education Bureau are not applicable to the University.

(b)

Arrangements of examination postponement

 

 

 

 

 

(i)

For Postgraduate courses arranged by Divisions, please contact the Division Office directly.

 

 

 

 

 

Postgraduate students taking Undergraduate courses or Postgraduate courses using centralized examination, please refer to the website of Registration and Examinations Section (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/rgs) for details of postponement for centralized course examination. 

 

 

(ii)

For examinations which are conducted by individual departments, the departments concerned may post details of postponement on their notice boards.

 

 

 

(c)

Public announcements on suspension of classes or postponement of public examinations made by the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority are not applicable to the University.

 

 

C.

Transport Arrangements

 

 

(a)

If the local storm warning signal No. 8 or above is issued during a class period, meet class buses will cease to operate whereas the normal shuttle bus service, will be maintained for an hour.

(b)

If the black rainstorm signal is issued during a class period, meet class buses will cease to operate whereas the shuttle bus services will be maintained as normal unless situation does not permit.

(c)

If the local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or the black rainstorm signal is issued before the start of class period, all buses will be suspended and will resume operation one hour after the said warning signal is lowered.

 

 

2.

Medical Students at the Prince of Wales Hospital

 

 

A.

Suspension of Classes

 

 

(i)

Classes/teaching should be conducted in accordance with the prescribed teaching timetable unless local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or black rainstorm signal is in force:

(ii)

If local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or black rainstorm signal is issued during a class period, classes will be suspended immediately. Students are advised to remain in class or take shelter in a safe place until they find it safe to go or when the weather and traffic conditions have improved.

 

 

B.

Professional Examination Arrangements

 

 

(i)

The Professional Examinations will be held as scheduled when local storm warning signal No. 1, 3 or red rainstorm signal is in force, unless otherwise announced by the University.

(ii) 

All morning and afternoon examination sessions will be postponed if local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or black rainstorm signal is in force by or after 8:00 a.m. Details of postponement will be announced as soon as possible at the Prince of Wales Hospital (Hostel and Department offices concerned) and the Faculty and Planning Office, Faculty of Medicine.

(iii)

If local storm warning signal No. 8 or above or black rainstorm signal is issued after the start of an examination, the examination shall continue to proceed until further notice.
